I spent the better part of eight months researching bikes for my son's first pedal bike. The first time I saw a woom bike in an REI location I could tell from a distance that it was a very well made bike. Knowing nothing about it, I checked the price tag and the price of bike confirmed it was nice, as it had a price to match. Over the months I went back and forth on whether to invest in a woom bike, or a less expensive alternative (also with very good reviews) because my son was very slow to warm up to biking in general. He never liked riding tricycles or scooters and was very late in getting comfortable with his balance bike, so part of me didn't want to spend $500 on his first pedal bike only to realize that he just wasn't going to ride it. I read reviews. I asked friends and family members. I asked bike nerds I knew. Almost everyone I asked said “Get the Woom,” even folks who had gone with another option. Finally I decided to take the plunge and I placed the order. Within 24 hours, my son's woom bike was on the way. I had it shipped to my office which is attached to a warehouse that gets 1-3 FedEx deliveries per day from the local hub. I figured this was safer, faster, and would keep the bike a surprise for my son. For a solid week, FedEx Tracking showed the bike was out for delivery. We got our regular FedEx deliveries, but the bike was never delivered, and the next day the delivery date would update. Frustrated, I tried to contact Fedex - nothing - so I called Woom to see if they could help out. Without hesitation, the customer service representative apologized, asked if UPS was more reliable in our area, and shipped a new bike which arrived next day. They then handled FedEx on the back-end and eventually had the original order routed back to their warehouse after it went for over three weeks without being delivered. Customer service like that is rare - so rare it was almost jarring. On Christmas Day, we gave our son his new bike. Hey was over the moon. He immediately strapped on his helmet and got on, and within 10 minutes, he was pedaling and riding on his own, surprising me and surprising himself in his confidence. He's been showing off his new bike and biking skills ever since. 10 out of 10 recommend.
