Vienna, 5/11/2024: woom, the Austrian manufacturer of bikes for children and teenagers, has announced a safety notice that affects owners of its woom OFF and woom OFF AIR mountain bikes in sizes 5 and 6 (model years 2019-2020) and woom ORIGINAL bikes in size 6 (model years 2016-2020). The cranks on these bicycles need to be replaced. Customers can easily identify if they own an affected bike using the Online Crank Checker and have their cranks replaced for free at an authorized woom dealer.
The safety notice affects these woom bikes: the 2019 and 2020 woom OFF and woom OFF AIR mountain bikes in sizes 5 and 6 (24" and 26") as well as the woom ORIGINAL in size 6 (26", model years 2016-2020). These bikes are specced with cranks that pose a very slim risk of developing spontaneous fatigue and breaking under heavy stress. All woom ORIGINAL bikes in sizes 1–5, the woom ORIGINAL 6 from pre-2016 and post-2021, all woom OFF and woom OFF AIR mountain bikes from model year 2021 onwards are unaffected. No size 4 woom OFF and woom OFF AIR mountain bikes are affected,, and nor are any other woom models including the woom EXPLORE, woom NOW and woom UP.
Customers are now encouraged to identify their woom bike using the Online Crank Checker to see if it is affected. If yes, they'll be prompted to order the newest woom cranks for free and to arrange an appointment with their local woom dealer to install the replacement cranks at no cost. Should it be necessary for a customer to have their cranks replaced at a non-woom dealer, woom will still cover the costs.
Transparent communication
"The safety of our bikes is our top priority," says woom CEO Bernd Hake: "We are dedicated to providing a quality product that allows multiple children to ride safely for years. This is why we have voluntarily decided to replace the cranksets on these models free of charge as a precautionary measure."

About woom
woom is an international manufacturer of bikes for children and teenagers with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The company was founded in 2013 by two bike-loving dads, Christian Bezdeka and Marcus Ihlenfeld, in a garage in Vienna. After searching the market in vain for suitable bikes for their own children, they decided to develop and build their own. With their light weight, timeless design, high-quality components and child-specific geometry, woom bikes set new standards for premium children's bikes. In just a few years, woom went from a little-known brand to the market leader in Austria. Since then, woom has made a name for itself around the world. In more than 30 countries – including the USA – you'll see kids and teens riding woom bikes.
