Vienna, 10/09/2024: woom is launching its brand-new all-rounder, which it has developed specifically for children aged 6–14: the woom EXPLORE. The new woom EXPLORE brings together high-quality components and a standout frame design to meet the needs of older children, who are ready to explore the world independently. This lightweight, multi-terrain bike is designed to give a comfortable and intuitive ride whether on asphalt or light off-road. With a streamlined focus on comfort, safety and style, the new woom EXPLORE, which comes in four bold colors, is the next chapter in the brand's category of all-rounders and sets a new standard for the industry.

"After huge amounts of market research and a lot of time spent listening to feedback from our customers and dealers, we set about creating a woom bike specifically for riders aged six and up, which would be markedly different to our woom bikes for younger children. After three years of intensive R&D, we're now launching the woom EXPLORE, a cool bike for all-round riding, which marks the arrival of a new design era at woom," explains Nicole Lunzer, Head of marketing at woom.

Ride, explore, repeat with the new woom EXPLORE

"The new frame design takes a more angular aesthetic and has a less pronounced kink in the top tube, which gives the woom EXPLORE its cool, standout style. The bike's geometry is optimized for children to create a sporty, dynamic riding position with superior handling and comfort," explains product designer Matthias Leite-Gürtner, who knows the ins-and-outs of the woom EXPLORE. He also knows that geometry is just one part of the equation: "One of the biggest priorities when developing the woom EXPLORE was how we integrated components to deliver the highest-possible comfort and safety."

This led the team at woom towards powerful hydraulic disc brakes with adjustable brake levers to ensure a reliable braking performance and confidence on all terrains, even in wet conditions, while only requiring low force to operate.

The new bike also features brand-new slimline Ergogrips designed specifically for children's hands to help them maintain a firm grip and prolong the onset of fatigue on longer rides. Schwalbe's lightweight and agile Billy Bonkers all-terrain tires provide optimized grip for multiple surfaces, from asphalt to light off-road terrain, allowing kids to ride with confidence and control.

"The saddle was another key consideration for us, and so we collaborated with Selle Royal to create a real game-changer when it comes to comfort. The new ergonomic saddle is tailored for each frame size to give optimized comfort on every ride," continues Leite-Gürtner.

A distinctive look and customizable style

The woom EXPLORE doesn't just tick all the technical boxes but also has a sophisticated silhouette that's designed to satisfy the taste of the very people who'll be riding it: six- to fourteen-year-olds. As an age category of riders that are beginning to explore the idea of self-expression, the woom EXPLORE represents a desirable, sporty bike that's tuned to their style. Launching in four colors – woom red, magnetic blue, jungle green and neon coral – each new bike has a matte finish plus black components and rims that lend a new vibe to the woom EXPLORE.

With a slogan of "The frame is your canvas", young riders are encouraged to bring their own style to their bike. "The intention behind the cool frame stickers is to offer kids the opportunity for self-expression, letting them create a unique woom EXPLORE. This is aimed at older kids," expands Leite-Gürtner.

For the adventurers of tomorrow

"Development on the woom EXPLORE really got going in 2021 after a round of market research highlighted just how much potential the brand has with older children. Our new product line has been influenced by multiple factors, including feedback from customers and our sales network, the current stagnation of the market and increased competition. The woom EXPLORE isn't just a case of us driving forward innovation, but also a way to bring impetus to the market and continue the brand development of woom in a targeted way," says Nicole Lunzer.

The result is the woom EXPLORE: the first woom bike to be specifically aimed at 6–14-year-olds. "It's an age group that no longer wants to be associated with childlike attributes. Age-specific markers like the clothes they wear, the brands they use and language influence how they act and back up their strict judgment over what's cool and what's not," Lunzer outlines the main takeaways from their market research.

This understanding was just one of the many valuable insights that have been invested into the development of the woom EXPLORE: "With the woom EXPLORE, we're confirming our position as the leading manufacturer of bikes for kids and teens and raising the bar once more. The launch of the woom EXPLORE also gives the woom brand a stronger footing with the pre-teen category," adds Lunzer.

The woom EXPLORE isn't just a bike for getting from A to B; it's part of every two-wheeled adventure from now on. The bike's lightweight frame, high-quality components and well-thought-out design boils down to the perfect bike for children who want to explore the world on their own terms, whether in the city or countryside, on asphalt or light off-road terrain.

The woom EXPLORE is available online and in select stores now.

About woom
woom is an international manufacturer of bikes for children and teenagers with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The company was founded in 2013 by two bike-loving dads, Christian Bezdeka and Marcus Ihlenfeld, in a garage in Vienna. After searching the market in vain for suitable bikes for their own children, they decided to develop and build their own. With their light weight, timeless design, high-quality components and child-specific geometry, woom bikes set new standards for premium children's bikes. In just a few years, woom went from a little-known brand to the market leader in Austria. Since then, woom has made a name for itself around the world. In more than 30 countries – including the USA – you'll see kids and teens riding woom bikes.
