Responsible growth and sustainability through a child's eyes: woom publishes Sustainability Report 2025

- Efficient growth: Sales increase with 4% less carbon intensity per euro.
- Accurate carbon footprint: Scope 1 & 2 emissions at 15% below SBTi goal for 2030; 73% of Scope 3 emissions calculated with actual data.
- Innovative approach to circular economy: woom WOW handlebars and fork made with up to 98% recycled material and 100% plastic-free packaging.
- Sharp focus on children: New woom Kids Advisory Board advises management team; sustainability report drafted from a child's point of view for first time.
Vienna, 3 September 2026: woom, the manufacturer of bikes for kids and teens, has published its Sustainability Report 2025. Teaming strong growth with progress on climate action, the company is targeting its reporting at its young target group for the first time. The Kids Advisory Board, formed in spring this year, advises the woom management team, while the design and content of the sustainability report are aimed at children.
The picture is clear from an economic standpoint, with the carbon intensity per euro generated dropping by 4% while sales grew. The absolute increase in Scope 3 emissions (+21%) is a reflection of the production volume growing. woom reviewed its data foundation with a view to reducing emissions in a more targeted way, resulting in 73% of Scope 3 emissions now being calculated with actual activity data.
At 65 tonnes of CO₂e, operational emissions (Scope 1 & 2) are still fully on track against the climate goal despite the one-off effect of the US office relocation, with woom already sitting at 15% below its SBTi (Science Based Targets initiative) interim goal for 2030. Determined to reduce emissions further, the company is looking into various other options that include switching to an electric vehicle fleet.
"We produce bikes and support the sustainable mobility of young people. But, as a manufacturer, we consume resources – we speak very plainly about that fact," explains woom COO Johannes Kisslinger. "Our Sustainability Report 2025 isn't a way of just showing off what we've achieved so far – it will drive us to keep on improving and making progress with our approach to the circular economy."
Actual data, circular products and transparent supply chains
In an effort to dramatically reduce emissions along the supply chain, woom is expanding its European production partnerships, diversifying its supplier base and ensuring maximum transparency all the way along the value chain. By using its own supplier risk scoring system and connecting key suppliers to the VERSO platform (a digital platform for ESG and supply chain data), the company is building an even more resilient supply chain with a stronger data foundation.
A dedicated packaging department within the innovation team has also been tasked with systematically eliminating single-use plastic. Alongside the woom WOW, the READY Kids' Helmet (outer shell made from 100% recycled polycarbonate; inner shell made from 50% recycled expanded polystyrene) demonstrates the commitment to circularity at the product level – as does the steady increase in material efficiency across the entire range. The woom ESG team is an integral part of the Product Management & Commercialisation department and led by COO Johannes Kisslinger, ensuring that sustainability is even more closely intertwined with product development, product management and supply chain.
Corporate social responsibility and sustainable company culture
Through the (woom)ᴿᴱᴰ initiative (linked to the sale of red woom GO and woom EXPLORE bikes), woom is supporting the organisation RED by adding USD 100,000 to the global fund. In Austria, the company also supports the Austria Cycles to School (Österreich radelt zur Schule) mobility initiative among others, sponsors the Child-Friendly Transport System category at the Verkehrsclub Österreich (Austrian Traffic Association) Mobility Awards, and has donated EUR 12,000 to Make A Wish Austria to help make wishes come true for seriously ill children.
The commitment to sustainability continues into the workforce, with 72% of woom employees around the world now choosing a sustainable commute (up 6% on last year). 33% of the team in the USA take part in Car Free Day to make a stand for eco-friendly mobility. An active EDI (equality, diversity and inclusion) group also advocates for diversity and inclusion in the workplace.
Roadmap for 2026: ongoing commitment to sustainability
"Our success in the 2025 financial year is giving us a good tailwind, but we're still pedalling hard," says Johannes Kisslinger. "In 2026, we're integrating sustainability even more deeply into all our core processes – from resource allocation to supply chain and product design. Every step forwards provides us with the opportunity to generate genuine added value for future generations."
Note for editorial teams/interview requests: woom COO Johannes Kisslinger is happy to give technical interviews and briefings focusing on ESG, sustainable supply chains, the circular economy in product design, and data integrity in climate reporting.

About woom
woom is an international manufacturer of bikes for children and teenagers with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The company was founded in 2013 by two bike-loving dads, Christian Bezdeka and Marcus Ihlenfeld, in a garage in Vienna. After searching the market in vain for suitable bikes for their own children, they decided to develop and build their own. With their light weight, timeless design, high-quality components and child-specific geometry, woom bikes set new standards for premium children's bikes. In just a few years, woom went from a little-known brand to the market leader in Austria. Since then, woom has made a name for itself around the world. In more than 40 countries – including the USA, the Middle East, and China – you'll now find kids and teens riding woom bikes.
