Vienna, 04/03/2026: The international manufacturer of bikes for children and teenagers is releasing the woom EXPLORE e, a sporty standard e-bike for kids and teens aged between 7 and 14. The smart e-bike, available in two sizes (24 and 26″), opens up new adventures for young riders, giving them the independence and confidence to explore further afield – while staying as safe and comfortable as possible. With this latest launch, woom is raising the bar for e-bikes and cementing its leading position as an innovative brand in the industry once again.

"We start every design process by focusing on the young riders, who are always at the heart of all our thinking. We identified the need for a lightweight, safety-conscious and powerful children's e-bike and decided to design exactly that ourselves. And that's how we ended up creating the lightest, safest and best e-bike for kids. With the woom EXPLORE e, we've rewritten the rule book for children's e-bikes," says woom product designer Daniel Kloboucnik, reflecting on the process of developing the woom EXPLORE e.

Just go further
The woom EXPLORE e focuses on what really matters and is one of the lightest standard e-bikes for children on the market, weighing in at just 12.7 kg (size 5 with 24" wheels) or 13.2 kg (size 6 with 26" wheels). The new woom e-bike features the high-end XS drive system from German manufacturer MAHLE. The X30 electric motor integrated into the rear wheel hub provides assistance up to a speed of 25 km/h, barely making a noise so kids don't get distracted as they ride. The three support modes meet the exact abilities and needs of children. And the beating heart of the woom EXPLORE e? That's the superlight eX1 battery from MAHLE – a compact battery system that looks like a water bottle. It's so easy to remove the battery and charge it using a USB-C cable before popping it back in position and setting off on a longer ride of up to 50 km.

Safety first on fun adventures
The intuitive pedal-assist and powerful disc brakes keep kids safe and comfortable when they're out and about on the woom EXPLORE e, knowing they can brake with control and confidence whenever they need to come to a stop. There are no buttons or displays to distract them on the handlebars, so they can just concentrate on the ride. Kids or parents can switch between the three power modes by pressing the button on the battery or changing the settings in the MAHLE SmartBike app.

"When it comes to e-bikes, the hardware and software are both important elements. Assistance has to be smooth and gentle, with the ride remaining intuitive. The software for controlling the motor added a new dimension to the product development process for us on top of the physical product," says product designer Kloboucnik. The app also offers extra features, making it possible to adjust the pedal-assist to match the child's level and reduce the assistance being provided.

The woom EXPLORE e – more flexibility for everyday rides
"We released a limited run of the woom EXPLORE e in Austria and Germany last spring and sold out in next to no time. This incredible interest made it clear to us that there is a huge demand for high-quality e-bikes for kids and teens. The standard bike market might be stagnating, but there's no denying that the market for e-bikes is booming. We want to be actively involved in shaping this trend and make a lasting impact on it. By launching the woom EXPLORE e globally, we're responding directly to this development and setting new standards in design, technology and quality once again," says woom CEO Bernd Hake.

The woom EXPLORE e opens up new opportunities for children and parents to ride together, with the whole family on a level playing field. All of a sudden, lengthier and more challenging routes become possible. With electric pedal-assist on their side, children and teenagers can keep going for longer and handle the climbs along the way. This gives them more flexibility and independence, while boosting their confidence too. Plus, parents can enjoy more freedom when it comes to planning out the family's schedule. Overall, the woom EXPLORE e helps children live an active lifestyle. Kids who enjoy riding will ride more – and kids who ride more also move more.

The woom EXPLORE e is available to buy now online and at retailers that are stocking the e-bike.

About woom
woom is an international manufacturer of bikes for children and teenagers with its headquarters in Vienna, Austria. The company was founded in 2013 by two bike-loving dads, Christian Bezdeka and Marcus Ihlenfeld, in a garage in Vienna. With their light weight, timeless design, high-quality components and child-specific geometry, woom bikes set new standards for premium children's bikes. In just a few years, woom went from a little-known brand to the market leader in Austria. Since then, woom has made a name for itself around the world. In more than 40 countries – including the USA, the Middle East and China – you'll now find kids and teens riding woom bikes.
